Adelaide Photography Tours

The city of churches & serial killers are two opposing jokes that are often made of Adelaide and neither ring true. Big city folk like Sydney siders have around 5-6 degrees of separation. While Adelaide has 2-3 degrees with a small population of around 1.2 million. The city itself can be walked in full day stopping in at all the local museums. The city map looks like a chess board designed by Colonel William Light in 1835.

North Terrace and a walk along the Torrens River is where we spent most of our time while in Adelaide for 4 days. We also spent a day in the heritage listed town of Hahndorf (Oldest German Settlement in Australia) and the Barossa Valley. Being interested in nature, art, history and food made it easy for us to enjoy this city. Almost all of the museums are free unless there is a special exhibition. Our first stop was at the Art Gallery of South Australia. What makes this place unique compared to most other Art Museums is it's curation mixing old and new art. They also managed to mix mediums of art which happen to go well together. The experience for the young and old is more interactive. The contrasts provide a new perspective of both periods of art.

The State Library next door is where you can find the Mortlock Wing with its three storey of old world charm as seen in the photos below. Usually opened from 10am - 5pm. They allow photography & tripods without flash.

Botanic Gardens runs along North Terrace heading east. The East Gate entrance on Botanic Road leads close to a myriad of pine trees and modern glass house architecture. The wonderful mix of textures and patterns up close is fascinating.
Take time out to explore the beauty and diversity of plants from across Australia and around the world. Spend an hour or spend the day among the 50 hectares of magnificently maintained gardens and stunning architecture. Relax in the shade or enjoy a coffee among some of Australia’s finest plant collections.
